Toy Story 5 Trailer Pits Woody and Buzz Versus a Digital Device
Exactly 30 years after the original Toy Story movie was released, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and bringing viewers to beloved figures like Woody (Tom Hanks) and Buzz Lightyear (Tim Allen), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 appeared this week, providing a brief look into the plot but leaving viewers wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Digital Device Spooks the Gang
The preview shows the young girl — who received the toy collection when he left for college — getting a latest toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. Bonnie acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like the rest of her playthings. However, the characters appear to consider it as a threat intending to supplant them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
One thing the trailer avoids is what the sheriff is returned with his friends in Bonnie's room. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him set off on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a carnival and helping giveaway items locate loving owners.
Surely, Pixar will explain the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is a little strange, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have returned with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Continuity from the Last Installment
Fortunately, some aspects are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing Woody did before departing for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her in charge of the toy domain. In the teaser displays the badge pinned to her outfit.
It is hoped she is still the key figure among the toys.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
