One extended cruise around Australia is being halted in the wake of the death of an elderly woman who was stranded by the ship on a distant tropical isle.

Suzanne Rees had been hiking on the tropical location with shipmates from the Coral Adventurer, but parted ways from the party for a rest. The liner left without her and returned later that day after the crew realised the passenger was unaccounted for.

A large-scale rescue mission found her person the following day.

Investigative bodies are examining the event, in coordination with investigators and the official investigator.

Chief Executive of the cruise operator stated that passengers and staff on the ship were notified that the rest of the journey had been called off due to the "unfortunate death and prior mechanical issues".

Via official communication, he added that guests would be provided a complete reimbursement, and said the organization was working "to coordinate the return journeys of the passengers via chartered flights".
